General information on Czech vehicle insurance
As standard in European countries you must have a mininmum level of insurance in order to drive a car on Czech roads.
The minimum level of Czech car insurance is called Povinne ruceni (POV).
Czech car insurance is based on the vehicle type, engine size and registered address.
Czech vehicle insurance is for a specific vehicle and anyone with a valid license is considered insured and can drive the car.
If you have a vehicle registered in your name, the vehicle must have insurance. There is a central database of all registered vehicles and insurance policies on the vehicle, you will be fined for every day that the vehicle is not insured.
If you wish to deregister the vehicle you will need to hand in the number plates.
