What health insurance do I need for a Czech visa?
If you will be employed by a Czech company you will be signed into the Czech state/public health insurance sytem.
Non EU spouses and dependents will normally need to purchase private health insurance.
If you will be a student in the Czech Republic and are non EU you will normally need to purchase private health insurance.
Czech health insurance for the self employed.
Self employed EU nationals, will use Czech state health insurance and should sign up when the apply for their zivnost. Failure to sign up or pay will result in fines and extra fees.
Non EU on a zivnostensky list will have to use private health insurance.
EU and no EU who employ themsleves through and SRO will normally register for Czech state health insurance.
Health insurance and a Czech visa
In most cases when you looking to buy Czech health insurance, it will be tied to your visa and vice versa. Your visa will be tied to your health insurance.
Where possible you should check with the embassy where you will be applying for your first visa.
Most embassies will accept basic health insurance for your first visa. Some embassies demand complex health insurance for your first visa.
You will first apply for your visa. If/when your application is accepted you will be told to collect your visa. This is when you will need to prove that you have Czech health insurance.
At this point you need to have ready enough helath insurance to cover the lenght of your first visa.
An embassy will not give you a three month visa if you only have two weeks of insurance.
Visa renewal and Czech health insurance.
After your first visa, you will normally be issued a residence permit. At this stage you will need to have Complex health insurance.
You cannot use basic health insurance for visa renewal.
If you will apply for 1 year or two years residence, you will need to have sufficient health insurance to cover the lenght of your visa, paid in advance.
So if you are applying for a two will need to buy two years health insurance in advance.
